I am so mad I can barely see straight.

This is fucking ridiculous. I am so mad at the president for speaking out this way on this issue. Not that I would have voted for the man anyway, being a Dean supporter as I am, but at this point I think I'd rather see a chimpanzee in office than him.

Bush is a chimp. That's what's so infuriating.

It's times like these that I'm really glad I'm a Canadian. Seriously, how did that man get elected? I've never in my life seen anyone so conservative. The man's practically a fascist.

it's not that he's conservative, it's that he's conservative and, ah, not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He's also horrible at diplomacy, so he's very blunt (ha ha, no pun intended there IRT the knife cliche) and manages to piss off lots of people that way.

The longer Bush is President, the more frightened I become of him.

But, I thought we already had a chimp in office!

"I have long opposed governmental recognition of same-gender marriages and this legislation is consistent with that position."

This would appear to be the statement of a fascist, yes.

Except that Bush didn't say it. Bill Clinton did. He said it in 1996.

Y'see, in 1996, Bill Clinton didn't just talk about legislation opposing gay marriage; he signed it. The 1996 Defense Of Marriage Act gave individual states the right to ignore the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution and refuse to recognize gay marriages from other states.

When he signed the legislation, he issued a statement that contained the above quote (the entire statement can be found here).

It's certainly your right to call anyone you want a "fascist", but I at least hope that you'll have the intellectual honesty to use the term wherever it may apply, and not just where it suits your political preferences.

...and before someone decides to call me a "fascist" for the culture-crime of not bashing Bush, let me state for the record that I believe that Bush is wrong on the issue; the state has no compelling interest in prohibiting civil unions between same-sex partners.

But no one here actually called Bush one. The closest anyone came was a citizen of another country who said he was "practically" (not actually) a fascist. Besides, just because one President takes a Neanderthal stance, doesn't mean another one didn't also. Despite being in different parties, they are not necessarily polar opposites on all issues. I was much more comfortable, myself, once I realized that thinking of myself as mostly liberal didn't mean I automatically had to like Clinton.

Check out this article in my local paper: <http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/0731montini31.html>. And note the mention of my company. (Hint: it's the only company mentioned in the article., the one that gave benefits to the people involved.) I'm so proud.
